Squire SS100CS Stonghold Padlock w/ TC22/5 Hardened Alloy Chain - Keyed Alike

Weighing in at a total of 21.62kg, this is not a padlock and chain set you are likely to carry around with you, but it is a formidable Motorbike Lock and Chain package that you can set up at home or at work to protect your bike while it is left unattended.

This padlock chain package is rated as Sold Secure Diamond for Motorcycles, while the SS100CS padlock itself, has achieved CEN6 rating and the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) SR4 level, which sees it attacked with a 12V cordless grinder, drills and hammers for ten minutes, is a hot contender for best motorbike lock.

High Security Padlock

The close shackle padlock itself weighs a hefty 4.34kg, features 2 locking cylinders (which can be keyed the same or keyed differently) and a massive 20mm uncroppable hardened boron steel alloy shackle.

A thermo plastic outer sleeve is designed to help prevent the padlock from scratching your bike during use, while a protective rubber dust cover at the base, prevents dust or water ingress to the lock cylinders.

The lock is supplied with 2 keys for each cylinder (4 keys in total). Both cylinders must be unlocked to open the padlock and once both are unlocked the shackle can be fully removed until you are ready to relock the padlock.

This is the strongest production padlock in the world, which is probably one of the reasons that it has achieved its CEN Grade 6 rating, which is the highest security rating and is capable of a tensile pull of over 20 tonnes.  

Forget trying to break this padlock – if it takes 120 rounds of ammunition, 40 of which are armour-piercing then a final 20 rounds of 50 calibre to beat it, attacking what the padlock is attached to will always be easier.

Picking this formidable lock is a lot harder - and while celebrity locksmiths will defeat it in ideal conditions, in the wild this would be very, very hard to beat. But in reality, picking is pretty much non-existent in motorcycle theft, unless it is a ridiculously easy lock, so what matters is how tough the padlock is. 

High Security Chain

The high security Squire TC22 motorbike chain is 1.5 metres in length with the wire diameter of each link being 22mm. It is covered with a rugged protective sleeve, bolted at each end to keep it in place and weighs 17.28kg (11.52kg per metre).

When neatly coiled, it covers a 32cm diameter area. The sheer bulk and weight of this chain makes it difficult to handle, but does of course make it an excellent choice as a security chain.

Tested by Bennetts / Bike Social (September 2019), there is no way this chain can be hand cropped, even with massive 42 inch bolt croppers, and it proved very hard work to cut, even when attacked with a mains powered angle grinder, so anyone attempting to defeat it will be making a lot of noise and cussing a lot.

If you intend to use this chain with a ground anchor, please make sure that the chain guide in the ground anchor is big enough to allow the chain to pass through, as not many currently available ground anchors do.
